End housing inequality

No renter should have to face discrimination or inequality

If you are a migrant, refugee or minority ethnic renter, have community engagement experience or just want to help Generatoin Rent better engage with migrant and minority ethnic renters sign up here to get involved with our community partnerships programme.

Migrant, refugee, and minority ethnic renters are over-represented in the private rented sector. Non-white-British households are more than twice as likely to be in the sector as white British households, and more than half of migrant households are in the private rented sector.

Although anyone can be subjected to overcrowding, poor standards and criminal behaviour from landlords, there are indications that migrant and BME renters are especially vulnerable to these issues.

The COVID-19 crisis has also shone a harsh spotlight on the racial inequality in UK housing. Black African, Pakistani and Bangladeshi households were more than three times more likely than white British households to be in housing arrears. Black Caribbean, Bangladeshi and white Other households were more than twice as likely to have faced eviction during the pandemic than white British households.

This work will ensure that migrant, refugee and minority ethnic renters inform, shape and are at the forefront of all Generation Rent’s campaigns and polices. Join our fight to end housing inequality.
