Generation Rent can’t offer advice about individual problems. Here are a few organisations that can:
- The government-funded Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service provides access to free, non-means tested early legal advice to anyone at risk of eviction and loss of their home
- Shelter’s emergency helpline 0808 800 4444 is open 8am-6pm on weekdays excluding bank holidays. Call if you have nowhere to sleep tonight or if you are at risk of harm or abuse in your home.
- Citizens Advice has a network of local bureaux.
- A solicitor listed on Housing Law Practitioners Association.
- A solicitor listed on Law Centres Network.
- Safer Renting protects tenants dealing with criminal landlords, specialising in preventing illegal evictions (please note: they only work in certain parts of the country – visit the website to check).
- Check with Remedy if your home needs a licence.
- Get Rent Back can help you claim back rent from a negligent landlord, e.g. if they have failed to get a licence.
- Justice for Tenants can help you claim back rent as above, and recover an unprotected deposit.
- My Housing Gateway can help you come up with an action plan if you are facing rental disputes or problems with your rented home.
