Demo against revenge evictions

Join us on Monday 24th November to put pressure on MPs to ban revenge evictions.

The House of Commons debates Sarah Teather MP's Bill to end the practice on Friday the 28th, and we need enough MPs to show up to vote it through.

GMB Young London are organising the demo, which will take place outside Parliament on Monday evening - that should give parliamentarians plenty of notice.

Please let us know if you're planning to come.

If you can't make it on Monday evening, please ask your MP to support the Bill here.

Hey guys, Sorry for the timings confusion, for some reason FaceBook decided the Houses of Parliament are on east coast time...Just to be clear, the event is tomorrow at 6.30pm! We'll be in the Old Palace Yard, I've stuck a map below. We've got a handful of blank placards, which people are welcome to scrawl on and wave, but if you want to bring your own placards banners etc that would be awesome. Just please DON'T bring any loud speaker systems or anything which makes it look as though we'll be setting up camp. See you all there!

Hi guys, We will be posting in here the location of the demo either this afternoon or tomorrow - it will be around Parliament Square. We have notified the police who have given us a very polite go ahead. Please bring your friends, housemates, grans, grandads... We have a limited number of placards which we will be writing our reasons for protesting on, eg "I was evicted because I complained when my flat flooded,", "I'm here because I want a home I know is safe". But if you have any placards or signs of your own then do bring them, all we ask is that you are responsible for chucking them away afterwards. Also please don't bring megaphones or anything to sit on... the ridiculous laws around protesting at Parliament mean you can't.

Our neighbours were evicted because they complained about the disgusting conditions they had to endure. The house was condemned as unfit for habitation but it has been relet to a family with small children. Good luck.

PS I presume someone will be making a placard with an amended version of the cover of Allen Ginsberg's Howl on? Ok good.

Is anyone else A Bit Peeved that the proposed bill would only stop revenge evictions for the six months after a problem is reported? After those sixth months the landlord could still evict you for having asked for your property to be kept in acceptable order. It's not much reassurance to me that should I complain to my council that my landlord seems very reluctant to fix mine & Ayana's leaking roof, under this bill he could still chuck us out for doing so after six months. We all need more housing security than half a year. Are we going with 'something's better than nothing'?
