What makes your house feel like home?
For those lucky enough to own their home it might be the freshly washed sheets, the family photos, or their favourite spot on the sofa.
For private renters’ however one answer dominates – protection from eviction.
Currently, private renters can be evicted without reason and given just two months to pack up and move out.
Only when private renters are better protected from eviction can they have confidence their house can be their home

- Giving tenants 4 months’ notice to find a new home – rather than the 2 months they currently have
- Protecting tenants from a no-fault eviction for the first 2 years of a tenancy – rather than only the first 6 months
- Stopping landlords who evict tenants on no-fault grounds from re-letting the property for 12 months if they change their mind – rather than the 3 months the government is planning
- Requiring the landlord to pay the tenant 2 months’ rent to help them find a new place to live and move home
- Requiring landlords to list the property for sale with a sitting tenant for six months before seeking an eviction
